A new driver for The Grand Tour?

They're back!

The Grand Tour have blessed the world by not bringing back Mike Skinner, known as ‘The American’ to their second season that is due out in the next few weeks. Since the beginning of the show, ‘The American’ never really captured the audience, and quite honestly the idea behind the whole thing was absolute rubbish.

A video was released today, showing former Formula One driver, Mark Webber, putting a Porsche GT2 RS through its paces around the test track and then following up with a lap in a Mercedes AMG GTR. The video was in fact a joke as Webber deliberately drove extremely slowly on his lap in the Merc, showing that the Australian was biased towards his current racing employer, Porsche.

Although this video was made to be a joke, I get the feeling that Webber could be a serious contender for the show as he is a popular individual, a seriously good driver and someone who has been on Top Gear previously so already has a relationship with the hosts. I really wouldn’t be surprised to see him as the driver for The Grand Tour in season 2. I guess there is only one way to find out!

In all seriousness though, The Grand Tour are bound to make a huge improvement from their dismal idea from season 1. This video does show that they are seriously looking for a replacement which is exciting in itself. I’m sure the Amazon-supported series won’t make the same mistake again.
