So, we all remember the Hennessey Venom GT that came out a few years back. No? Well let’s rewind the tape a little bit. In 2011, we all thought that Bugatti were the kings of speed and that America would never stand a chance against the German engineered masterpiece. We were wrong, because a little company called Hennessey Performance came out with the Venom GT; a complete thing of madness. It looked like a wide-body Lotus Exige, but it was so much more than that. This was a twin-turbocharged V8 modified version that produced over 1000 horsepower and had a top speed of 265mph!
Now, the madness continues as Hennessey have now revealed their latest creation in the form of the Venom F5. This car makes it predecessor look fairly tame as the F5 now clocks a top speed of 300mph and produces 1600bhp. The F5 now uses a custom in-house built chassis made from carbon fiber as opposed to the Lotus chassis used on the GT. According to Hennessey, this car is set to break the 0-400-0 record held by the Koenigsegg Agera R by some 6.5 seconds.
None of the numbers are truly official yet but based on their previous creation we’re sure they’re pretty accurate. The price tag of this machine of pure madness is $1.6million which is a lot of money but the last Venom GT was sold for $1.2million, so in comparison it’s not that much more cash out the bank. To be honest, if you’ve got the kind of money for this car then I’m sure a few hundred-thousand isn’t something to sweat about.
The gearbox has been migrated to a paddle shift as opposed to the manual used in the GT. In this case I think I can accept defeat to a paddle shift, purely because I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like to drive a 1600bhp car with an old fashioned manual box. We’re very excited to see the true potential of this car come out and if the Venom GT is anything to go by, then we are in for a treat.
