BMW unveiled their latest addition to the motorsport world in Frankfurt last week. For this season, they have been using the current M6 GT3 car which has to be one of the best-looking GT cars on the grid, especially in a striking livery. The current car uses a 4.4-litre V8 that produces up to 585bhp depending on the series its competing in.
The M8 was first spotted back in July testing at both Lausitz and Barcelona, driven by a number of BMW factory test drivers. It was coated in some camouflage livery though, so this was the first time anyone was able to really see what it looked like in the flesh.
The new M8 should produce around the same kind of power as the current M6 GT3 but with the implementation of new technology to push the ever-moving world of motorsport further into the future. ‘We are bringing cutting-edge technology to the top international class of GT racing, whilst at the same time tying in with our tradition at Le Mans’ said Jens Marquardt, director of BMW Motorsport.
This car has only been developed for the 24 hours of Le Mans and Daytona in 2018 so far, but I’m hoping that this car will branch out into other GT series around the world because I mean, look at it! The design is something magical with extreme amounts of detail and an emphasis on a very modern look. Not to mention that massive wing. I look forward to watching this car make a name for itself and who knows, maybe I’ll even get to drive it!
