Marc Marquez finished first to join Dovizioso as joint leaders of the MotoGP World Championship.
The MotoGP race weekend was showered by a number of issues affecting the championship standings. The most notable though was the lack of a certain number 46 on the grid, as well as the wet conditions, which saw a number of fallers in all classes during the course of race-day.
The wet conditions affected the entire day. This resulted in Danilo Petrucci, a wet weather specialist, cruising off into the distance and lead for most of the race. Andrea Dovizioso was unable to make any kind of meaningful impact on the factory Ducati. Andrea’s Ducati teammate, Jorge Lorenzo became a cropper on lap 6 which once again showed the class of Dovizioso and Petrucci in the wet weather conditions.
Marquez eventually managed to catch Petrucci on the penultimate lap, which saw Marquez overtaking the Italian and completing the fastest lap of the race as he crossed the finish line taking the victory and joining Dovizioso as the joint leader in the championship standings.
Both Dovizioso and Marquez have won four races during the 2017 season, a season that has seen the two come toe-to-toe on a number of occasions.
We can’t wait for Motorland Aragon on the 22nd of September.
